Bull Denim Fabric from India in White, Ecru and PFD
10 to 14 oz 3/1 heavy twill, rigid or stretch, ready to wear or to dye
Bull denim fabric is a heavy 3/1 cotton twill woven like denim but with undyed warp and weft, so the fabric is one solid colour on both sides. It is supplied in optical white for white jeans, in natural ecru, and in PFD (prepared for dyeing) form for brands that dye garments or fabric to their own colours. Newton Exports supplies bull denim from Indian mills in 10 to 14 oz, rigid or stretch, with mill test reports for every lot.

6 Things to Check Before Ordering Bull Denim
01
White, ecru or PFD
Choose the preparation based on whether you will wear, print or dye the fabric.
02
Dye trial
For PFD, run a dye trial on a sample before bulk to confirm shade and shrinkage.
03
Whiteness
For optical white, agree a whiteness target and a reference.
04
Shrinkage
Garment dyeing adds shrinkage, so allow for it in patterns.
05
MOQ and lead time
Developed qualities typically start at 3,000 to 5,000 m, with 30 to 45 days lead time.
06
Packing
White fabric needs clean wrapping to prevent soiling; confirm roll packing and labels.

FAQs
Bull Denim Fabric FAQs
What is bull denim fabric? +
Bull denim fabric is a heavy cotton twill, usually 3/1, woven in the same way as denim but with undyed warp and weft yarns. Because both sets of yarns are the same colour, the fabric is solid on both sides, unlike blue denim with its indigo face and white back. Bull denim is typically 10 to 14 oz and is very strong. It is supplied in optical white, natural ecru or PFD form and is used for white jeans, garment-dyed apparel, workwear, upholstery and bags.
What is the difference between bull denim and regular denim? +
Regular denim is woven with a dyed warp, usually indigo, and a white or lighter weft, so the face is coloured and the back is light, and it fades with wear. Bull denim uses undyed yarns in both directions, so it is one colour throughout and does not fade in the same way. Bull denim is also usually woven as a heavy, tight 3/1 twill, which makes it firm and durable. It can be worn white or ecru, or dyed to any colour after weaving or after sewing.
What does PFD mean in denim? +
PFD stands for prepared for dyeing. PFD fabric has been scoured to remove natural waxes and impurities and bleached to a neutral white, but it has no softener, optical brightener or other finish that could block dye. This lets the fabric, or garments made from it, absorb dye quickly and evenly. PFD bull denim is used by brands that garment-dye to seasonal colours or dye fabric in smaller lots. Ask for absorbency results to AATCC 79 and a dye trial before bulk production.
Is white bull denim good for white jeans? +
Yes. Optical white bull denim is the standard fabric for white jeans because both sides are white, so there is no blue showing at seams or hems, and the heavy twill is opaque enough not to be see-through. 10 to 12 oz suits most white jeans, with stretch versions for fitted styles. Ask for a whiteness reference and good opacity, and wash garments separately and cold to keep them bright. For an off-white look, natural ecru bull denim gives a softer, vintage tone.
Can bull denim be dyed? +
Yes. Bull denim, especially in PFD form, is made to be dyed. It can be dyed as fabric to a custom shade, or sewn into garments that are then garment-dyed, which gives a soft hand, a lived-in look and the flexibility to choose colours late in the season. Reactive, pigment and sulphur dyes are commonly used. Because dyeing adds shrinkage, brands should run a dye trial on a sample, measure shrinkage and adjust patterns before cutting bulk.
What is the MOQ for bull denim from India? +
For developed bull denim qualities, Indian mills typically ask for 3,000 to 5,000 metres per construction. Because bull denim is not dyed in the warp, one base quality can often serve white, ecru and PFD orders, which can make smaller lots of each preparation possible. Stretch qualities and special widths may need the full minimum. Lead times are usually 30 to 45 days. Share your weight, preparation, stretch and quantity, and Newton Exports will confirm options with the mill.
How much bull denim fits in a container? +
A 20 ft container holds about 150 to 160 rolls of 12 oz bull denim, roughly 16,000 to 18,000 metres, 10 to 11 MT and 25 to 27 CBM. A 40 ft high cube holds about 350 to 370 rolls, roughly 37,000 to 42,000 metres, 23 to 25 MT and 58 to 62 CBM. White fabric is wrapped in clean poly film and an HDPE outer to protect it from soiling in transit. Final figures depend on roll length and are confirmed on the packing list before dispatch.
What is the HS code for bull denim fabric? +
Because bull denim is woven from undyed yarns, it is not classified as denim, which needs a coloured warp. Bleached white and PFD bull denim of 85% or more cotton and over 200 GSM is classified under HS 520922, bleached 3-thread or 4-thread twill. Unbleached ecru falls under HS 520912, and fabric dyed after weaving falls under HS 520932. Stretch qualities with 1 to 2% elastane usually stay in the same headings. The exact 8-digit code is confirmed on the commercial invoice for each shipment.
Specifications are typical and confirmed per order.
