Indian quilts include the famous Jaipuri razai, filled with fluffy cotton and covered in hand block printed muslin, and layered Kantha quilts hand stitched in West Bengal. Both are light, warm and reversible.Quilts sell year-round in warm markets and as layering pieces in cooler ones. We can match them to bedcovers and pillow covers in the same print.

Indian quilts: light, warm and made by hand

Indian quilts are some of the most charming textiles India makes. The famous Jaipuri razai, filled with fluffy cotton and covered in hand block printed muslin, is so light it almost floats, yet keeps you warm on cool nights. Kantha quilts from West Bengal are layered and hand stitched into a soft, rippled texture that only gets better with age.

When buyers ask about quilts, we usually ask about climate and use. Warm-climate shoppers want light layers. Cooler markets want something cosy to put over a duvet or on a sofa. Both are possible.

Types of quilts we offer

Jaipuri razai

Cotton-filled quilts with hand block printed muslin or cotton covers, often reversible, from Jaipur. Traditionally they come in reds, golds and blues, with softer modern colourways available.

Kantha quilts

Several layers of cotton or recycled saris stitched together by hand with running stitch. Each one is reversible, and recycled sari versions are one of a kind. They share their craft with our Kantha quilted throw.

Machine quilted cotton quilts

Block printed or solid cotton quilts with machine quilting for consistent retail programmes.

Sizes and weights

We supply single, double, queen and king sizes. Razais are typically light, around 1 to 2 kg, and Kantha quilts around 1.5 to 2.5 kg depending on layers.

Care

Kantha and machine quilted cotton quilts are machine washable on a gentle cycle. Cotton-filled razais are best aired and spot cleaned, or dry cleaned. We print clear care advice on every label.

Coordinating

Quilts look lovely with bedcovers, pillow covers and dohars in coordinating prints.

Minimum quantities and packing

Minimums are per design and size and are kept modest. Razais can be vacuum packed to save freight volume. Prices are quoted ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF to your port.

Questions about Indian quilts

What is the difference between a razai and a dohar?

A razai is filled with cotton for warmth. A dohar is a thin three-layer muslin blanket for mild weather.

Can I order identical Kantha quilts?

Yes, in new printed cotton. Recycled sari quilts are one of a kind.

Can quilts be vacuum packed?

Yes, which reduces shipping volume considerably.

Choosing quilts for your market

For warm markets, light razais and Kantha quilts can be sold as year-round bedding. In cooler markets, they work beautifully as a layer over a duvet or folded on a sofa, and they sell strongly in spring and autumn. Recycled sari Kantha quilts appeal to customers who love one-of-a-kind and sustainable pieces.

What affects the price

The amount of cotton filling, the quilting density and the print all affect cost. Hand-stitched Kantha is priced on labour, so denser stitching costs more and lasts longer.

Tell us about your customers’ climate and bedroom style, and we will suggest which quilts will suit them.
