Indian serveware brings the table to life with pieces shaped by artisanal communities who have worked wood, brass, marble, ceramic and enamel for generations. Our range covers trays, bowls, plates, cups and mugs, coasters and serving sets, each made by hand and finished to suit modern homes, cafes and hotels. We see buyers ask for one thing above all: age-old crafts in a contemporary style that still survives a dishwasher or a busy restaurant. So we work with makers in Moradabad, Saharanpur, Jaipur and Khurja who can hold a consistent finish across a container load. Mixed orders, custom colours and private label packing are all possible.

Indian serveware: craft you can actually use

When buyers first ask us about Indian serveware, they usually have one of two pictures in mind. Some are thinking of polished brass and hand-painted enamel for a festive table. Others want simple stoneware and mango wood that looks good every day and survives a dishwasher. India makes both beautifully, and the trick is knowing which cluster to go to for which look.

So before we send a long product list, we like to ask a couple of simple questions. Is there a material you already have in mind, such as wood, brass, marble or ceramic? Or are you led more by the look, the price point and how the pieces will be used? Either way, the sections below will help you find your starting point.

Where Indian serveware comes from

Serveware in India is made in a handful of specialist towns, each with its own skills and its own character.

Wood from Saharanpur and Rajasthan

Mango wood, acacia and sheesham are carved, turned and finished by hand. Wood suits serving trays, salad bowls, platters and coasters, and it gives a warm, natural look that sells well in Europe and North America.

Metal from Moradabad

Moradabad is known as the brass city of India. Artisans hammer, cast, etch and enamel brass, copper and steel into bowls, trays, thalis and drinkware. Metal pieces work beautifully for festive and hospitality ranges.

Marble and stone from Agra and Rajasthan

White marble with semi-precious stone inlay is one of India’s most recognisable crafts. It is ideal for coasters, cheese boards and small trays, and makes an elegant gift.

Ceramics from Khurja and Jaipur

Khurja potters make hand-glazed stoneware plates, mugs and bowls in reactive glazes, while Jaipur is known for its hand-painted blue pottery.

Mixing materials in one order

One of the nicest things about serveware is how well different crafts sit together. A mango wood tray, a hammered brass bowl, a set of marble coasters and a few stoneware mugs can all travel in the same shipment and make a complete table story on your shop floor. We coordinate between workshops so finishes and packing stay consistent, and you deal with one supplier instead of five.

Food safety and everyday use

We are always honest about this part. Not every handmade finish is meant for food. Wood is finished with food-safe oils, ceramics use lead-free glazes, and brass that will touch food is lined or tin-coated where needed. Decorative pieces such as enamel trays are labelled as such. Tell us how your customers will use each piece and we will guide you to the right finish, and share test reports where the maker has them.

Minimum quantities and custom work

Because most of these pieces are handmade, minimums are set per design and finish and are generally modest. Many buyers begin with a mixed order across serving sets and platters, trays and coasters, then grow the designs that sell. Custom colours, sizes and engraved or printed logos are possible; they simply need a little more time for the first run.

Packing and shipping

Serveware needs careful packing. Wood is packed with moisture protection, ceramics travel in cell cartons, and marble and brass are wrapped individually. We ship by sea in full or shared containers, or by air for smaller orders, and quote ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF to your port. Serveware also combines easily with our kitchen and dining linen in one shipment.

Buying Indian serveware: common questions

Can I import Indian serveware in small quantities?

Yes. Minimums are per design, and for handmade pieces they are kept modest. Tell us your total budget or quantity and we will help you spread it across products.

Can you make serveware with my brand?

Yes. Engraving, printed backstamps, branded boxes and swing tags are all available under our private label service.

Which materials are dishwasher safe?

Stoneware and stainless steel usually are. Wood, brass, enamel and marble should be hand washed. We print the care instructions on your labels.

How long does production take?

Ready designs usually take four to eight weeks. New designs and custom glazes take longer, and the weeks before Diwali are always busy for Indian workshops.

If you are not sure where to begin, send us a few lines about your store and the look you want, and we will put together a short list of materials and makers that fit.
