Combining SAIL’s higher-strength Fe550D chemistry with corrosion resistance gives engineers one fewer compromise to make on coastal or industrial infrastructure projects that also carry heavier structural loads. Fe550D HCR sits alongside Fe500D HCR in SAIL’s High Corrosion Resistant family, both produced at the company’s Bhilai, Durgapur, and IISCO Burnpur integrated plants.

Fe550D HCR carries the same 550 MPa minimum yield strength, 600 MPa minimum tensile strength, and 1.08 minimum UTS/YS ratio as the standard Fe550D EQR grade, with copper-chromium alloying added specifically to slow corrosion in marine, coastal, and underground applications. Elongation is held at the same 14.5% minimum specified for Fe550D EQR, so the corrosion-resistant treatment does not come at the cost of ductility or seismic suitability. Manufacturing runs to IS 1786:2008 Amendment 3 specifications, with tolerances on length, nominal mass, and carbon equivalent following the same standard applied across SAIL’s full TMT range.

Newton Exports offers this grade in 8mm to 40mm sizes for projects that need both higher load capacity and long-term corrosion protection in a single specification, coastal apartment complexes, port and jetty structures, chemical and fertiliser plant construction, and underground utility work where humidity exposure is constant. As with SAIL’s other TMT grades, the bar is dispatched in wire-strapped bundles and can be supplied in custom lengths beyond the standard 12 metres by mutual agreement with the mill.
