Where standard TMT bars are optimised for bonding within poured concrete, roof and rock bolts are designed to transfer load through grouting into rock or soil, a fundamentally different mechanical job that calls for a different rib profile.

SAIL’s Fe600 Rock/Roof Bolt is rolled with a modified rib design that improves grouting bond strength in underground applications, paired with the same 600 MPa minimum yield strength and 660 MPa minimum tensile strength as SAIL’s standard Fe600 grade, along with a 1.06 minimum UTS/YS ratio and 10% minimum elongation. High strength, better toughness, and excellent bond properties with grouting materials are the specific qualities the modified rib design targets, distinguishing this product from general-purpose TMT bar even though the base steel chemistry and strength class match Fe600 exactly.

Newton Exports supplies this product in 20mm, 25mm, and 32mm sizes, the diameters most commonly specified for underground mine roof support, tunnel roof stabilisation, and slope stabilisation work in hilly terrain, as well as soil nailing and anchoring applications. The 20mm size is also available in coil form on request from SAIL’s Wire Rod Mill for continuous roof-bolt installation work where cut-to-length bar is less practical than coiled stock.
