Underground, marine, and industrial environments corrode ordinary rebar faster than the concrete around it can compensate for, and SAIL developed the HCR, High Corrosion Resistant, product family specifically for these exposure categories. Fe500D HCR is manufactured at the same Bhilai, Durgapur, and IISCO Burnpur plants as SAIL’s EQR range, using the identical base chemistry and mechanical specification with corrosion-resistant alloying added on top.

Fe500D HCR matches the mechanical properties of SAIL’s standard EQR grade exactly, a 500 MPa minimum yield strength, 565 MPa minimum tensile strength, 1.10 minimum UTS/YS ratio, and 16% minimum elongation, so specifiers do not lose any structural performance by choosing the corrosion-resistant variant. What changes is the addition of controlled copper-chromium alloying, applied when Niobium, Vanadium, Titanium, or Boron micro-alloying elements are not already present, giving the bar the corrosion resistance needed for RCC construction exposed to coastal, marine, industrial, or underground environments where humidity and chemical exposure are constant rather than occasional.

Newton Exports supplies this grade in 8mm to 40mm diameters, recommended specifically for projects where the concrete cover will be exposed to persistent moisture or chemical attack over the structure’s service life, coastal housing, marine facilities, industrial plants handling corrosive materials, and underground structures such as basements or tunnels. Packaging follows SAIL’s standard wire-strapped bundle practice, with 12-metre standard lengths available for export.
