Kantha Bedspread

A Kantha bedspread is made by layering two or three sheets of printed cotton and stitching them together with rows of small running stitches across the whole surface. The stitching gives a soft, crinkled texture and makes the bedspread reversible, with one print on each face.

Kantha is an age-old craft of the women’s artisanal communities of West Bengal, who once stitched old saris into quilts for their families. We use new Indian fabric printed in traditional block prints and florals, finished in the same hand stitch, as well as solid colours in a contemporary style with white stitch lines. The palette runs from coral and teal to indigo, the colours of India, and every handicraft bedspread carries the stitcher’s ethnic rhythm.

Selling Kantha Bedspreads

Lifestyle stores and online boho brands sell them as summer coverlets, and holiday rentals use them because they wash and dry easily. Smaller sizes double as sofa throws and picnic blankets.
