A crewel embroidered bedspread is stitched by hand with fine wool yarn on a sturdy cotton base. Kashmiri artisans use an aari hook to work long chain stitches that form flowing vines, leaves and birds, often covering most of the cloth.
Crewel work is an age-old craft of the artisanal communities of the Kashmir valley, traded to Europe since the 17th century. We keep the ethnic tree of life and floral vine designs, and offer contemporary style single-colour crewel in ivory, grey or indigo. Wool colours span the earthy and jewel colours of India, and the Indian fabric base can be paired with traditional block prints in matching sheets. Each handicraft bedspread takes weeks of stitching.
