Marble Inlay Tray

A marble inlay tray is cut from white Makrana marble, the same stone used in the Taj Mahal, and decorated with tiny pieces of lapis, malachite, carnelian and mother of pearl set flush into the surface. Agra craftsmen chisel each recess by hand, shape every stone slice on a grinding wheel and fit it so tightly the joins are barely visible.

This pietra dura work, called parchinkari locally, is an age-old craft passed down in artisanal communities around the Taj. We offer classic Mughal florals and simpler geometric borders that read as craft in contemporary style. The stones bring the jewel-like colours of India to the table, and every tray is an individual handicraft piece, prized by buyers of luxury Indian and ethnic decor.
