The Kantha table runner is made by layering two or three pieces of printed cotton and stitching them together by hand with continuous rows of running stitch. The stitches pull the layers into a gently rippled surface and make the runner thicker, so it protects the table a little more than a single-layer runner.
Each side carries a different print, typically a small floral or block print on one face and a contrasting print or solid on the other. Recycled sari versions are available as assorted one-of-a-kind pieces. Edges are bound or turned and stitched.
