Jaipur Blue Pottery Plate

A Jaipur blue pottery plate is not made of clay at all. Craftsmen mix ground quartz, glass, multani mitti and gum into a dough, mould it, and paint it by hand in cobalt blue and turquoise before a low firing. The result is a light, glossy plate with a distinctive Persian-Indian look.

Blue pottery is an age-old craft that came to Jaipur from Persia and is now kept alive by artisanal communities in the city and nearby villages. Our designs range from ethnic florals and birds to sparse contemporary style patterns. Cobalt, turquoise and white are the cool side of the colours of India, and every handicraft plate is painted freehand.
