Terracotta Kulhad Cups

Terracotta kulhad cups are small, wheel-thrown clay cups used across India for chai and lassi. The porous clay gives tea a faint earthy aroma, and the cup is light, cheap and fully biodegradable, which is why street vendors have used it for generations.

Kulhad making is an age-old craft of the Kumhar artisanal communities of North India, who throw thousands of cups a day on simple wheels. We offer the traditional unglazed version and a glazed-inside version for reuse, a contemporary style that cafes abroad love for chai menus. The red-brown of fired clay is one of the most familiar colours of India, and every handicraft cup carries the potter’s finger marks, a true ethnic Indian object.

Who Buys Kulhads

Chai cafes, Indian restaurants and dessert bars use them for authentic service, and event caterers use unglazed cups as eco disposables. Gift shops sell glazed sets with a small brass tray.

Export Supply and Freight

Cups are packed in straw or paper with strong cartons to limit breakage, and we allow a small breakage margin on bulk orders. For the terracotta kulhad cups, we ship from Nhava Sheva or Mundra on ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF terms.
