A mulmul cotton dohar is a light blanket made of three layers: two printed mulmul cotton faces with a thin layer of gauze between them, stitched at the edges and sometimes quilted. It is the classic Indian summer cover, warm enough under a fan or air conditioning and cool enough for hot nights.
Dohar making is an age-old craft of the artisanal communities of Jaipur and Kolkata. The outer Indian fabric is printed in traditional block prints or screen prints, with ethnic jaal, floral and buta patterns, alongside contemporary style stripes and pastel solids. Soft pinks, blues and greens carry the gentle colours of India, and each handicraft dohar becomes softer with every wash.
