Hand Block Print Bedcover

A hand block print bedcover is printed one block at a time: a printer dips a carved teak block in colour and presses it onto the cotton by hand, moving across the fabric in rows until the whole bedcover is covered. Each colour needs its own block, so a three-colour floral may take more than a thousand impressions.

Traditional block prints are an age-old craft of the chhipa artisanal communities of Sanganer and Bagru near Jaipur, who have printed Indian fabric this way for over 400 years. We offer classic ethnic florals and buta motifs, and craft in contemporary style with sparse geometric and stripe layouts. Indigo, madder red, mustard and leaf green bring the colours of India into the bedroom, and slight misalignments between blocks are the honest signature of handicraft work.
