Terracotta Coasters

Terracotta coasters are pressed from clay, dried and kiln fired, leaving a porous surface that soaks up condensation from cold drinks quickly. A cork backing protects tables, and the clay dries out fast between uses.

Terracotta work is an age-old craft of the Kumhar artisanal communities across India. We offer plain natural clay in a contemporary style, and ethnic hand-painted versions with Warli and Madhubani motifs. The red earth is one of the most recognisable colours of India, and every Indian handicraft coaster has slight variations from hand pressing.

Who Buys Terracotta Coasters

Eco stores, cafes and gift shops sell them, and they work well in Indian restaurant and souvenir ranges. Hand-painted folk versions sell as gift sets.

Export Supply and Freight

Coasters are wrapped and packed in boxes of four, then in master cartons. For the terracotta coasters, we ship from Nhava Sheva or Kolkata on ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF terms.

Questions

Do terracotta coasters absorb water?

Yes, the porous clay absorbs condensation and dries quickly.

Can we have custom painting?

Yes, from about 300 sets.

Are terracotta coasters fragile?

Fired terracotta is fairly strong but can chip if dropped on a hard floor. We pack each set with paper separators and allow a small breakage margin in bulk orders, and the cork backing also helps cushion the clay during everyday use on glass or stone tables.
