Bagru Block Print Placemat Set

These block print placemats come from Bagru near Jaipur, printed by hand on double-layer cotton using the Dabu mud-resist method and natural dyes. The resist creates soft, crackled pale motifs on indigo, while Syahi-Begar prints give black and rust patterns on cream.

Each placemat has a coordinated napkin in a smaller companion print, so a set looks layered rather than identical. Placemats are stitched double for body and finished with a contrast binding or a simple hem. The set coordinates with the Bagru runner, cushion cover and tea towel.

Where Bagru Placemats Sell

Farmhouse and cottage stores, cafes, organic food shops and gift retailers buy block print placemat sets. They make attractive housewarming gifts when banded with a printed card. Indigo Dabu with a rust companion napkin is the set I would put in front of a new buyer. A set packed in a printed cotton bag or kraft box works well for festive gifting, and the cost of the extra packaging is small compared with the uplift in perceived value.
