Batik Print Cushion Cover

Each batik cushion cover is made with a wax-resist dyeing technique: hot wax is applied to cotton with a brush, tjanting pen or metal block, and the cloth is dyed so the waxed areas stay pale. The wax is cracked deliberately between dye baths, letting colour seep into thin lines that give batik its spider-web crackle, and it is finally boiled off.

In India, batik is practised in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Santiniketan. Our batik cushion covers come in abstract leaves, circles and geometric repeats in one to three colours. The crackle varies on every piece, which makes each cover slightly unique.

Who Buys Batik Cushions

Batik suits ethnic and global-style stores, boho and artisan homeware brands, beach houses and yoga studios. It sits naturally next to Shibori and Ajrakh in a hand-dyed story. In my experience, single-colour indigo or rust batik sells more widely than multicolour.

Export Supply and Freight

We approve colour standards and accept the natural crackle variation, then check each lot for size, stitching and wax residue. Covers are pressed, poly-bagged and cartoned for export. Shipments of the Batik print cushion cover go via Nhava Sheva or Mundra on ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF terms.

Questions

What are the key specifications of the batik cushion cover?

Hand wax-resist dyed cotton of about 140 GSM with crackle effect, one to three colours, concealed zip, in 16 and 18 inch squares plus a 12 x 20 inch lumbar.

Why do the crackle lines differ on every cover?

The wax cracks randomly when the cloth is folded or crushed before dyeing, so no two covers have the same crackle.

Which other resist-dyed cushion pairs well?

The Shibori cushion cover is resist dyed by folding and binding, and looks good next to indigo batik.

Can I order my own batik design?

Yes. Designs can be drawn by hand or made into a metal block for repeat patterns, with a sample before bulk.
