Kantha Quilted Throw

A Kantha quilted throw is built from two to four layers of soft cotton, printed on the outer faces, then held together by thousands of hand running stitches worked in parallel lines across the whole piece. The stitching gives the throw its crinkled, lived-in surface and makes it reversible, so a retailer effectively sells two looks in one product.

Traditionally Kantha quilts were made from old saris, and we still offer a recycled sari version where every piece is one of a kind. For chain stores that need consistency, we use new printed cotton in an agreed pattern, typically a small floral or block print on one side and a contrasting print or solid on the other. Weight stays light, around 1 to 1.4 kg, so it works as a summer bedspread or a sofa throw.
