Importing Long Pepper
8 Terms Buyers Use When Importing Long Pepper from Indonesia
Many buyers first source long pepper from Indonesia. These are the terms that appear in Indonesian offers, and how Indian long pepper compares.
01
Java long pepper
Indonesian offers say Java or Javanese long pepper, which is Piper retrofractum, not Indian Piper longum.
02
Cabe jawa and cabe jamu
The Indonesian trade names, from its use in jamu herbal drinks.
03
Madura and Lampung origin
The main Indonesian growing areas, with Sumenep in Madura the largest.
04
Moisture and admixture
Quoted as moisture % max and admixture or foreign matter % max, the two key quality checks.
05
PP woven bags with PE liner
The standard export pack, usually 25 kg or 50 kg, the same as for Indian long pepper.
06
FOB Surabaya, Semarang or Panjang
Indonesian loading ports; Indian long pepper ships FOB or CIF from Kolkata, Chennai or Kochi.
07
T/T advance or LC at sight
Common payment terms; we offer the same, agreed in the proforma invoice.

Required by most importing countries; we supply both with every shipment.

Before You Order
6 Things to Know Before Ordering Long Pepper
Agree to these points with us before the proforma invoice, so your long pepper shipment clears customs without delays.

Order Piper longum for Indian long pepper, so it is not swapped for Javanese long pepper or cubeb.
02
Agree the specification
Fix moisture, foreign matter and any piperine or microbial limits in the contract.
03
Test reports
Lab test reports are shared with the quote, and pre-shipment inspection can be arranged.
04
Mixed containers
Long pepper can share a container with other whole spices.
05
Check import rules
Confirm your country's phytosanitary and labelling rules before shipment; we prepare the documents to match.
06
Bag marking and labels
Bag markings, lot numbers and private labels are agreed before packing, so they match your import documents.
