A hand block print dohar uses outer layers printed by hand with carved wooden blocks, rather than by screen, which gives the colours depth and the patterns a gentle, handmade irregularity. The three cotton layers are stitched at the edges with a contrasting piping.
Traditional block prints are an age-old craft of the chhipa artisanal communities of Sanganer and Bagru, and they suit dohars perfectly because the soft Indian fabric takes dye beautifully. We print ethnic florals and buta motifs, plus contemporary style monochrome prints, in the colours of India, with natural dye options. Every handicraft dohar is a little different.
