Quilted Applique Cushion Cover

A quilted applique cushion cover is built in two stages. First, a cotton top is quilted onto thin batting so it gains a soft, padded surface. Then motifs cut from contrasting fabrics, such as elephants, birds, trees and moons, are turned under and stitched onto the quilted ground by hand or with a fine machine satin stitch.

This style draws on the appliqué traditions of Barmer in Rajasthan and Pipli in Odisha, adapted into softer palettes for export. The quilting lines often run as a background grid or wave, and small hand-stitched details add eyes, leaves and texture. Each cover is backed with plain cotton and zipped.

Where Appliqué Cushions Sell

Children’s rooms, nursery and baby gift stores, toy shops and family-friendly hotels are natural buyers, and the folk-animal designs also sell to adults who like whimsical interiors. Elephants and birds are perennial bestsellers. Pair with a plain quilted throw or a matching cot quilt to grow the order.
