Pochampally Ikat Cushion Cover

The Pochampally Ikat cushion cover is woven on handlooms in the Pochampally cluster of Telangana from cotton yarn that has been tied and dyed before it ever reaches the loom. The weaver aligns those pre-dyed threads as the cloth grows, so the diamonds, chevrons and arrow motifs appear with the characteristic blurred, feathered edge that machine printing cannot copy. Pochampally Ikat holds a Geographical Indication tag in India.

Because the pattern is in the yarn, it shows on both sides of the fabric and does not fade the way a surface print can. Covers are cut from the woven cloth, lined at the seams and closed with a zip. The lumbar size is popular with hotels for bed styling, while the squares sell through retail.

Popular Uses for Ikat Cushion Covers

Ikat works across contemporary and traditional rooms, so it is a safe range for furniture retailers bundling cushions with sofas and for hotel groups dressing beds with a lumbar pillow. Black and white ikat is the steady seller in Europe and the US; brighter mustard and teal suit the Middle East and summer collections.

Questions

What are the key specifications of the Pochampally Ikat cushion cover?

Handloom cotton of about 160 GSM with yarn-dyed ikat pattern, concealed zip, in 16 and 18 inch squares plus a 12 x 20 inch lumbar. Colours can be developed to your palette on bulk orders.

Why do the pattern edges look blurred?

That soft edge comes from the tie-dyed yarn shifting slightly on the loom. It is the signature of genuine handloom ikat and proves the piece is not a print.

Is there a cheaper alternative with a similar look?

A screen-printed ikat-style cover on cotton costs less, but the pattern is only on the surface. Within our handcraft range the Ajrakh block print cover is the closest in price.

How many colours can you do in one order?

Each colour needs its own dyed yarn batch, so we normally suggest three to five colourways per order to keep the minimum per colour practical for the weavers.

What information do you need to quote the Pochampally Ikat cushion cover?

Motif, colours, sizes, pieces per colour, label and packing needs and your port of discharge. You will get ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF prices with a sampling timeline.
