Our Bandhani cushion cover uses one of India’s oldest tie-dye crafts, practised in Kutch, Jamnagar and Rajasthan. Artisans, often with a long fingernail or a small metal ring, pinch tiny points of cloth and bind each with thread before dyeing. When the ties are removed, each point leaves a small undyed dot, and thousands of dots together form patterns.
Classic Bandhani designs include ekdali single dots, star-like clusters, waves and the chandrakhani moon motif, typically in white or yellow dots on red, maroon, green or indigo. The fabric keeps a slightly crinkled texture from the tying, which we preserve by finishing gently. Covers are lined and zipped.
