The Leheriya cushion cover comes from a resist-dyeing craft of Jaipur and Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The cloth is rolled diagonally from one corner to the opposite edge, tied tightly at intervals and dyed, then unrolled to reveal stripes. Repeating the roll in another direction creates a diamond grid called mothda. The name comes from lehar, meaning wave.
Our Leheriya cushion covers use lightweight cotton backed with a lining, or cotton-silk for a softer sheen, in two to four colours. The wavy lines blur softly where the dye seeps under the ties, so every cover looks slightly different. Bright monsoon palettes are traditional, but pastels and indigo also work.
