This Kalamkari placemat set is printed in Pedana near Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, home of the block printed style of Kalamkari. Printers use carved wooden blocks and natural dyes from myrobalan, alum, iron and plant roots to build layered floral, paisley and tree-of-life motifs in rust, black, mustard and indigo on an off-white ground.
