TMT Bars from India: Grades, Brands and Sizes

A Buyer's Guide on TMT Bars from India

India is one of the largest producers and exporters of Thermo-Mechanically Treated (TMT bars) reinforcement steel in the world, and for good reason. The country’s integrated steel plants roll TMT bars to the IS 1786:2008 standard across a wide span of strength grades, from general-purpose Fe500D through ultra-high-strength Fe600, along with specialised corrosion-resistant and seismic-grade variants built for coastal, industrial, and earthquake-prone construction. For builders, contractors, and infrastructure buyers outside India, sourcing TMT bars from India means access to internationally certified steel at competitive pricing, backed by decades of manufacturing scale.

At Newton Exports, we supply TMT bars from four of India’s most established steel brands — Tata Tiscon, Jindal Panther, JSW Neosteel and SAIL TMT — covering everything from standard residential-grade rebar to corrosion-resistant bars for marine structures and seismic-grade bars for high-risk earthquake zones. Below is a quick look at what each brand brings to the table.

Tata Tiscon, from Tata Steel’s Long Products Division, was India’s first TMT rebar brand to roll bars with Morgan, USA technology, and it remains the only rebar brand in India to hold Superbrand status.

The range we supply spans the standard Tata Tiscon 500D grade, the corrosion-resistant Tata Tiscon CRSD for coastal and marine work, and the ultra-high-strength Tata Tiscon Fe600 for high-rise and infrastructure projects.

Every Tata Tiscon bar is rolled from virgin iron ore through a primary steelmaking route, keeping sulphur and phosphorus content low and giving the finished bar excellent bendability and weldability.

Jindal Panther is manufactured by Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) at its integrated plants in Angul, Patratu, and Sohar, and the brand claims the largest production volume of Fe550D grade TMT rebar in India.

Our catalog includes the flagship Jindal Panther Fe550D, the ultra-high-strength Jindal Panther Fe600, and the CorroShield range of corrosion-resistant bars in both Fe500D CRS and Fe550D CRS grades. All grades are tested at JSPL’s NABL-accredited in-house labs and are approved for use in Indian government (CPWD) infrastructure projects.

Marketed as India’s purest TMT bar, JSW Neosteel is rolled using High Yield Quenching and Self Tempering (HYQST) technology from virgin iron ore, keeping impurity levels well below the BIS ceiling.

The range spans standard Neosteel 550D, the seismic-detailed Neosteel EDS built to IS 13920:2016, the ultra-high-strength Neosteel 600, and three corrosion-resistant CRS grades. Production takes place at zero-effluent-discharge, GreenPro-certified facilities, a point worth noting for buyers with sustainability requirements on their tenders.

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is one of the country’s oldest integrated public sector steelmakers, rolling TMT bars across its Bhilai, Durgapur, and IISCO Burnpur plants.

The SAIL TMT range we offer is the broadest in our catalog, covering standard Fe500D EQR and Fe550D EQR grades, Fe600, three High Corrosion Resistant (HCR) grades, the seismic-focused Fe500S for Zone IV and V construction, and a specialised Fe600 rock/roof bolt for underground mining and tunnelling.

Why Source TMT Bars from India

Buyers choose Indian TMT bars for a combination of certified quality, manufacturing scale, and price competitiveness that is difficult to match elsewhere. Every grade listed here is produced to IS 1786:2008 (with later amendments), and several brands additionally test to international benchmarks such as BS4449, ASTM-A615, and UK CARES, making it straightforward to match Indian TMT bars against your local project specification. Sizes across our catalog run from 6mm to 50mm diameter, supplied in standard 12-metre lengths and packed for containerised export.

You can browse the complete range — with full specifications, chemical composition, and mechanical properties for every grade — on our TMT Bars catalog page.
