A Kullu wool throw is woven on handlooms in the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh, where weaving shawls is a winter household craft. The plain body is woven in sheep wool or merino, and the ends carry the famous Kullu border: bands of small geometric diamonds, crosses and zigzags worked in bright pink, yellow, green and blue extra-weft yarn.
Kullu shawls hold a Geographical Indication tag, and the same weaving tradition translates naturally to larger throws. Base colours are natural grey, charcoal, cream, brown and black. The cloth is milled lightly after weaving, which softens it and closes the weave for extra warmth.

Who Buys Kullu Throws
Alpine and Nordic homeware stores, outdoor and camping brands, ski chalets and cabin rental operators favour Kullu throws for their warmth and cheerful borders. They also make good corporate winter gifts. Charcoal with a bright border photographs particularly well. Kullu throws are lighter than most wool blankets of similar warmth, which keeps shipping weight and cost down.
Export Supply and Freight
Weaving cooperatives in Kullu supply finished throws, which we check for weave density, border alignment and moth protection. Each throw is folded, packed with a cedar or neem sachet in a cloth bag and cartoned. Orders of the Kullu wool throw are trucked to Delhi and shipped via ICD Tughlakabad or Nhava Sheva on ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF terms.
Questions
What are the key specifications of the Kullu wool throw?
Handloom sheep or merino wool, about 0.7 to 1 kg, 125 x 180 cm, plain body with multicolour Kullu geometric border and twisted fringe.
Is merino softer than local wool?
Yes. Merino is finer and softer to the touch, while local Himachali wool is more rustic and slightly coarser.
Which throw has a bolder all-over pattern?
The Bhujodi wool throw from Kutch carries extra-weft motifs across more of the cloth.
Can I choose my own border colours?
Yes. Border yarns can be dyed to your palette, with a woven strike-off before bulk weaving.
What information do you need to quote the Kullu wool throw?
For the Kullu wool throw, please send wool type, body and border colours, size, quantity, packaging and port. With those details we price the Kullu wool throw ex-factory, FOB, CFR or CIF to your port.
