What is Cross Laminated Tarpaulin

Cross laminated tarpaulin is built from multiple layers of high-density polyethylene tape, laid in a criss-cross (0°/90°) pattern and laminated between two outer film layers. This cross-oriented construction gives the sheet strength in every direction, not just along one axis — a key difference from standard woven tarpaulin, where strength runs mainly along the weave and a small cut can run the length of the sheet. In cross laminated tarpaulin, the crossing layers stop a tear from propagating, so a puncture stays a puncture instead of splitting the whole sheet.

 

Every roll is UV stabilized during extrusion, meaning the stabilizer is compounded into the polymer itself rather than coated on afterward. That matters for anyone buying material that will sit outdoors for months – an uncoated film chalks, stiffens, and cracks within a season under strong sun, while a properly stabilized sheet holds its flexibility and colour for years. It’s also why lab testing matters more here than for most materials: accelerated UV exposure testing (192 hours, per IS 14611:2016 Annex G) is the one number that tells a buyer whether a supplier’s stabilizer package is real or minimal.
