Tata Wiron BS 5896-1980 Super Grade Strand

As part of its LRPC strand range, Tata Wiron (Tata Steel) offers the Tata Wiron BS 5896-1980 Super Grade Strand for heavier-loaded UK-specification tendons that need the Super series’ extra capacity over the Standard grade at the same nominal diameter.

Engineered in accordance with BS 5896-1980, Super, mechanical performance spans five rows from 9.60 mm to 15.70 mm with breaking loads climbing to 279.0 kN at the top end, all produced on Tata Wiron’s latest-generation vertical rod welding and SCADA-controlled stabilizing lines.

Common end-uses for the Tata Wiron BS 5896-1980 Super Grade Strand span the North Road Corridor and Dubai Airport Tunnel projects, both cited by Tata Steel among the flyover and highway works supplied under BS-format strand certification.

Before it leaves the mill, the Tata Wiron BS 5896-1980 Super Grade Strand is checked against Tata Steel’s fully integrated manufacturing cycle, from its own iron ore mines through in-house steel making and wire rod rolling at Tarapur, Indore and Jamshedpur, supplied in reeless cheese coils of 1–3.5 MT in either dry or oiled condition depending on site storage conditions.

Like all prestressing strand, the Tata Wiron BS 5896-1980 Super Grade Strand needs careful site handling: cut only with an abrasive disc cutter or shear cutter, never with a flame or welding torch, since heat changes the steel’s microstructure and its mechanical properties. Coils should be unloaded with a crane rather than dropped off the vehicle, stored under cover on a raised platform away from direct ground or water contact, and protected with a vapour phase inhibitor if they will sit on site for an extended period before stressing.
